This is some, "do as I say not as I do" advice, but another vehicle is right at the top of the list. After that would be food and water, recovery gear, a basic tool set, extra clothes, shovel, handsaw or axe, and paper maps of the area you're in

And if you going on a trail like Rubicon, then someone in the group should have a HAM radio and qualified to use it.

I added a new must have after our Slickrock trip last summer. Be aware of the overnight temps if you're camping and make sure your camping gear can handle it. I assumed wrongly that it would be warm since it was the middle of summer. I nearly turned into a meat popsicle the first night. For day trips I make sure I have extra food & water and might even bring a blanket and some warm jackets in case something goes wrong and we're stuck on the trail longer than expected or even an unexpected overnight trip. If you're doing a difficult trail like the Rubicon and think you might break something, try to figure out what that might be and have a spare if you can afford it/have room for it.

Fire bottle, flashlight, radio. AAA card helps too.
Spare clothes even on day trips, warm/rain clothes in case you need to spend the night in bad weather.
Water for a day or two longer than you think you'll need, and separate water for the jeep.
I try to have some place nearby in mind that I can crash in an emergency, wether it's a friend, friends cabin, or just a motel thats across the street from a parts store. I've only showed up unannounced on a friends doorstep once, when I destroyed both front UCA's, but it saved the trip.

Good stuff! Been making a list. Went in a little run yesterday and found spare fuses would have been helpful.
