Go Pro Remote

Why the heck is the go pro wi-fi remote so expensive? I have the wi-fi back pac and just want a remote but they range from 69.99 to 149.99. Costco has the entire GoPro Hero3 kit for 221.00 and that includes the remote and camera, i know there is a 3 plus now but just a remote for 70 bucks seems like a lot. I was just curious if anyone knew why the remote is so expensive?????

I think you can use an I pad for a remote.
