My F150 resurrection!

Postby 89YJBuilder » Wed Dec 17, 2014 4:33 pm

THIS IS AS MUCH A VENT AS ANYTHING!

We have had a 95 F150 that my wife got before we were married. She loves the truck and hasn't let me part it out or get rid of it as she has wanted me to rebuild it for her. Well that is where the money for Little Reds make over went! So new engine as the original spun a bearing while our daughter had it. Transmission had to get rebuilt as it was trashed! The old forks were worn almost through from, our daughter resting her hand on the shifter while driving. The rear seal was leaking as well and the oil never got refilled either. The transfer case needed bearings and seals. New u-joints while at it. Get the old engine stripped to swap things over to the new long block and find that the lower intake manifold rear bolt hole ear broke off. so new lower intake manifold as it is cast aluminium and I no longer know any body that does powder torch repair work. Then had the exhaust manifolds trued to bolt them back on and the machinist said that they were really badly warped. Well went to bolt them up and they were really badly warped because the bolt holes do not align with the holes any more. The bolts that go into the holes at both ends don't line up as to allow both of the end bolts to be put in at the same time. So new manifolds! :angry-banghead: Somebody just shoot me!
Oh did I mention that I do not have a garage or shop! Yep this is getting done out side! So before I was willing to un-crate the engine I bought one of those heavy duty tent like garage deals. :angry-cussingblack:
Well I had to also get a new harmonic dampener. We were this far into it so I decided well why not! And so I also got a new distributor, coil, injectors, motor and trans mounts. I t will also need new tires and shocks, radius arm bushings and axle pivot bushings. I am scared to look at the breaks at this point! It also is getting all new fluids and tune up parts just cause it is needed with the new engine and trans.
Oh and Red is still on the ramps with a jack stand holding up her trans and t-case because I haven't had time to find or build a new skid plate for her. :angry-banghead: Some body please shoot me!
This has been going on for the last two to three weeks now due to time and waiting on parts. So yesterday our daughter says hey I am having to do a bankruptcy and my car was just repoed! "Could I use the truck when it is done?" REALLY! :angry-cussingblack: :angry-banghead: :angry-cussingblack:
Oh the truck blue books at $1500 and I have so far put 5k into it! Some body shoot me please?

Oh life has a way of sending cruel jokes more often than not. Sorry to hear about your troubles Jason. Hope it all pans out for the better. At least on the bright side, if your daughter borrows the new and improved F150, you can feel good that she has a safe, reliable vehicle to drive thanks to a generous Dad!

Yep I will feel good about her having a safe reliable vehicle. If she will change the oil as needed during break in period. That is the biggest concern. She has never been good about doing or having vehicle maintenance done.

As well I told the wife numerous times it would be cheaper and we would be ahead if we sold or parted out this one and got a F250 diesel or Ram diesel.

Forgive me. Like I said at the beginning I am venting.
