Need wrenching buddy

So, I'm getting tired of "friends"flaking on me. I'm looking for a wrenching buddy. I don't know much about mechanics, but I can turn a wrench both left and right. I have a 67 gladiator that I would love to get on a trail or two this year, but my "friends" never show up, or just expect me to help them with their rigs, and never return the favor.

I'm in calaveras county, and not working for at least a few more weeks (until I am released from physical therapy). I'm about 28 miles from the slick rock trail, so plenty of spots for test runs. Also a moose member ebbetts pass chapter. So I can buy cheap drinks lol.

Not to sound too desperate, but I learn the best hands on, and I can only learn so much from magazines and these threads before my head starts spinning.

I have been working on the brakes lately. Swapping the brake booster and master cylinder, and trying to pop the drums off so I can replace the slave cylinders.

My first problem is no actuator coming from the brake pedal to the current brake booster, so I need to make something to connect to the new booster. Then run new brake lines as the ones currently are form fitted.

After that attempt to pop the drums off. I started with the leaky drum, front passenger. I can't get the drum to move for the life of me. Pb blasted the crap out of it. And a small amount of heat from a torch. No movement at all.

I am asking all of these seriously. I am willing to convey info however in order to do so I need to know what you are working on. Pics will also help alot. You earlier said that you could not get the front drum off. Drums brakes have a adjuster on them with access through the rear side of the brake assembly. Loosening the adjuster will loosen the pressure and most likely allow the drum to be removed. As well brake systems do not have slave cylenders clutches do. The drum brakes have wheel cylenders and should be relativly easy to remove and replace. Usually just two bolts and the brake line. I would check to see if you could get line extensions instead of total replacement. It will be easier and unless the hard lines are damaged they are most likely fine. The actuator for the brake booster is a rod that gos frome the brake peddle to the back side of the booster. then the master cylender bolts to the booster that has a rod that actuates the piston in the master cylender. This provides pressure to the caliper if disc brakes, wheel cylenders for drums. Those provide the pressure to the friction material and steel.
I would get a maintinance manuel they really help. Otherwise pics will be the best way for alot of us to be able to give info and/or advice.

I am working on a 1967 gladiator pickup. As far as I know everything is stock but the rear end.

It is a little dark, so I will try and get some photos for you in the morning. As for arnold, it is at the eastern end of hwy 4 in calaveras county. In between Amador and Tuolumne counties.

I have been looking for a Manuel for this jeep, but have not found one in the right condition, for the price asked.

ok got ya. It should have discs in the front drums in the rear. the discs should be quick and easy. The drums are another story. I just did front and rear brakes on a 95 F150. So I understand the PITA of drum brakes.
Arnold is a bit far for me to travel, unfortunatly. I would be willing to help otherwise. If you post good pics I will do my best to assist.

I highly recomend the book. Been working on vehicles in general for +/- 27 yrs. NOT PROFESIONALLY minde you. I ALWAYS get the book. When working on brake systems you are taking lives in your hands. how much is that worth?

I have the hardcopy of the FSM and it's my bible of all things jeep.

Thanks for the link whiteyj1994. that is the cheapest I have seen it yet. And is a reprint, not 50+ years old. I will be picking that up with the next paycheck.

89yjbuilder it is drum all the way around on all 4s. My plan is to eventually go disk in the front. Thanks for the offer, arnold is a bit of a distance from you. I will post pics as soon as I can. Sorry it has been quite stormy the last few days. Next time I get out under the truck I will grab some pics.

Kg6mov, I don't think I know what FSM means. I will probably be all like, duh, but can you elaborate?
