Indy I think you are well on track. I do not remember with out checking my book but I do believe that the Yeasu does transmit the call every 10 as well. Either radio will serve you well. If the money is not as big of a concern I would go with the Kenwood. Having said that the Yeasus that I have have never given me any problems.

Yea definitely doable because the normal mobile ham frequencies are 2 meters and 70 centimeters. So a 70 cm 1/4 wave antenna is roughly 6 1/2 inch.

I am ready for the test today @ 6:30PM ... I ordered a cheap handheld so I can use it at Rubicon and learn the Ham radio stuff more deeply. Soon will order a mobile rig that I will put in the Jeep. And then going to ask my wife to learn this stuff. I already hinted her about this and she seems to be ok with it. :music-rockon:
