Well drums are a pain. The best thing I can say is get a good set of spring pliers, adjuster spoon and keeper tool. None are "needed" but they do help. The spring pliers especially. I take pictures all the way around each one befor disassembly. After changing the brake I then store those photos and take pics of the next one so on and so on. Sounds silly but it really helps.

Here are some pics of the front passenger drum. No idea how to get it to come apart. Have soaked in pb blaster, hit with hammers (lightly) and a torch. What next?

First pic is the brake booster that came with the truck. No push rod. The second pic is the booster out of the 74. With push rod, but wrong size brackets. And the brackets off the old one so not fit the push rod. So either to the junk yard or get the drums off first and see if the problem is with the leak and not the booster.

I've never had front drums on 4x4 but I would think you need to pull the hub assembly off to get the drum off

Yeah, may need to disassemble the hub to remove the drum. Full Float rear ends comonly have a hub/drum that is a single part. So I guess it could hold true here.

That is what I have been saying. But when my 2 mechanic buddies came over,they told me there was no need to pull the hub. That was my planned route, I asked them over for motivational help. If you know what I mean. I have no clue what I'm doing, so I wanted someone to be there to help take the blame at least when I break shit. Lol.
Think I'm gonna look for a pdf of that FSM.

If you're ever in a real pinch an old friend of mine owns a local shop in Arnold. His name is Tom Weaver and the shop is called Arnold automotive. He's not free but he is honest and fair. I haven't talked to him in almost 14 yrs, I got married and moved out of Livermore where he used to build race boats in the same complex as the body shop I worked in.
