This may not be news, thought I would share for those that don't know. After the Mendo run with the Baja 500 silt fields, I thought I may need to change my cabin air filter. I just assumed I had one, I thought all late model vehicles had one. So here is what I found out.
On the JK, if you have the Auto Climate Control, the JK comes with cabin air filters. Other than that, there are no filters installed but you can add them. Meaning the air box in the cabin is designed for a filter, they were just to cheap to put them in their slot. There is a youtube video that describes that process and I can share the part number if anyone is interested. I bought a set of Wix, there is two.
My K&N, that I cleaned and oiled the night before our run, was dirty but not out of control. Just cleaned it yesterday and put her back in today. Many folk disrespect the K&N filters stating that in dusty conditions too many particles pass through and harm the engine. I raced several different type of vehicles over 30 years and built many small engines and used K&N filters on most, none showed any signs of piston wear due to dust. I like them, I like 'em a lot.
