You should not be doing cage work with a piece of garbage like that, I wouldn't even do recovery points, get a welder that's worth something and it will still be worth something in a decade.

The lowest priced, quality welder that you will find is Everlast. They are starting to compete with the big names on quality at a fraction of the cost

Wow, I hadn't heard of everlast before, the specs on their 210 are pretty good for that price. Maybe my next machine won't be blue after all . . .

I was contemplating on getting a Hobart welder (Model 500559), should I go with Everlast instead? Which one under $500 should do the job good enough?

I know nothing about welding and I will be learning with this equipment.

Depends on the job you're trying to do.

I don't think you can get a welding setup under $500 that's gonna be much good for our game. Least not new. The hobart you mention is a reasonable machine for the money, but you still need a bottle, etc. It's more or less the equivalent of the machine I have.

And I'm firmly of the opinon that I didn't start actually welding until I gave up on the flux core and got a bottle.

That little machine is great for the lightweight stuff I build for the theatre, but it just doesn't have the kick for the thick stuff.

That's correct, you won't find a new welder under $500 that will work for what you're wanting to do, unless you go with a stick welder. But Hobart's are really good, they are Miller welders without the autoset and steel drive rolls
