Spring Swap

Hi all,
This is sort of a tech question, I've done some searching, but want to verify my thinking. I am working to slightly de-mod my recently purchased 2013 JKU. It has 37's and a 4.5+ lift on it, just a bit too much for decent road manners. I'm doing several things, but want to replace the springs and drop it a bit. So, does this sound like it will work in my driveway?

1. disconnect swaybar, brake line/speed sensor mounts, shock.
2. jack one corner from the axle a few inches
3. Place jackstand under frame
4. Remove wheel/tire
5. Lower jack under axle and let it droop
6. remove bumpstop
7. Replace spring
8. reverse order of operations and move to next corner
9. Profit!

I'm planning on using the metal cloak dual rate 3.5 springs which I know are long, but I'm optimistic I can get enough droop to make it work. I am thinking the one corner at a time just for safety reasons. Am I crazy thinking this will work?

You're gonna need a spring compressor for those to do it in your driveway. We put 2.5's on my 2012 while it was on a lift and didn't have a compressor. The springs are the same length as the 3.5's though. Even with exhaust spacers in and me hanging off the front axle we needed a crowbar and a lot of muscle to get them in. I don't remember the backs being as bad, but unless you can fully droop the axle it's still going to suck without something to compress those things. I can disconnect my swaybar, put one tire up on a forklift so the other end is just barely on the ground and the springs have no chance of falling out still.

Thank you for the quick reply. Shoot, I was hoping removing the shock would allow it to droop enough. Spring compressors are a pain and dangerous.. Is it just the driveshaft interfering? I was also thinking loosening the control arms could help?

You might be able to get a little more droop if you disconnect your track bar and one end of the tie rod. Might be just enough to get them unseated with a crow bar. Spring compressors are dangerous.

If your driveshaft is binding, just unbolt it from the pinion yoke.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a shot once I get the springs. I have an aftermarket driveshaft, that should give me a little more room to work with.
